Mission
Founded in 1996 by Ann Boren, the Green Team Project is a
grass-roots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center that focuses on environmental
education and community outreach. It's mission is to educate and support
people and businesses in taking action to practice more
environmentally sustainable habits. We work with individuals,
cities,
companies, schools, non-profit organizations, religious groups and
government
agencies to conserve natural resources and support environmentally
friendly
activities and products. We provide training materials and support for local
organizations, government agencies, and small businesses to start their
own programs. It is our strong belief that both individuals
and businesses can maintain a high standard of living and profitability
while conducting themselves and their businesses in an environmentally
responsible
manner. The Project is about positive change as it supports behavior
and
attitude change in a fun, supportive, and non-judgmental manner.
The whole concept is based on working together in small
groups and supporting each other. Research has shown that people are
more likely to try new things, learn new habits and make long-lasting
changes when they have the support of others. In today's world, most
people know that they can do better when it comes to the environment
and their own impact but either do not know where to begin or don't
have the time. The Green Team Project provides an easy format and fun
atmosphere that does not take a lot of time for people to follow
through on their good intentions. During the program they learn that by
completing conservation actions and changing a few habits they save
money, many valuable resources, and they get to meet some great people
in the process.
