Our self-study course is for those individuals who want to learn about what they can do for the environment at their own pace; who prefer a self-directed approach; and who cannot attend a set of consecutive green team or workshop meetings due to work schedules, children, etc. Our goal for the self-study course is to make it as interesting, flexible and easy-to-use as possible. First, you let us know that you want to do the self-study course format. We will then send you a packet of information including instructions, the first chapter of the Green Action Guide for your area (if available; if not you will receive the national edition), any handouts and resources that supplement the chapter, as well as a few freebies that support actions in the chapter such as a low-flow showerhead. You then read the provided chapter, decide which actions you would like to implement, and let us know those chosen actions and by what date you think you will complete them (usually sometime between 2-4 weeks). We will send you an email on your said completion date asking for your results. Once we have received the results you will receive the next chapter, handouts, and freebies and continue on in the same format. Once you have completed the whole Green Action Guide, there is a final summary report form to complete and turn into us so we can calculate your results. You will received a results form in the mail that will catalog all your estimated resource and monetary savings as well as a certificate of completion. The average participant saves between 10-30% in each resource area and between $60-$500 a year on bills. Correspondence can be done either by email or snail mail with as many support/help calls as you need. A $25 program fee per participating household covers the Green Action Guide, support calls and calculated results. A reduced fee of $15 and full scholarships are available as needed. The cost is not meant to be an obstacle. We have just learned that people tend to value the program more when they have paid something. |
